Forbidden Dreams Panel

  • Playground Coffee Shop 1114 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216 (map)

A panel and gathering of South Asian and Indo- Caribbean LGBTQ+ speakers. Often times, we see panels where there is only one LGBTQ+ person that is expected to represent the entire lgbtq+ community. We had an array of speakers talk about how they chased after their dreams and continues to be unapologetically authentic. They all came from different backgrounds and careers such as community organizers, a musician, activists, artists, and a comedian. We were being intentional about not making sure to tokenize a specific identity, whether it be gender identities, sexualities, or ethnicities.

We believe it’s vital to curate a homogeneous space where everyone’s identity reflects onto each other’s identities.

Thank you so much to Bishakh Som, Noah Gokul, Farhat Rahman, and Zubi Ahmed for speaking at our event! A huge shoutout to Alok V. Menon, Fariha Róisín, and Ayqa Khan for donating the raffle prizes!

We also express our deepest gratitude to Playground Coffee Shop for allowing us to use their incredible space, Aastha Vohra for being our photographer, and Radhuni for the delicious samosas!
